Important Note from PON Chairman, Carolyn Humphrey.

The PON Foundation, Protect Onslow County Neighborhoods, is a group of concerned citizens whose main goal is to protect our neighborhoods from environmental and health issues. Community empowerment through education and responsible stewardship is our focus. We are a nonprofit community action group dedicated to protect and preserve our quality of life.

On February 23, 2010, the Onslow County Board of Adjustment voted to issue a Special Use Permit to Morton Trucking Inc., which will allow Elijah Morton to build an asphalt plant in our community. The PON Foundation is moving full steam ahead with a PLAN OF ACTION to stop this asphalt plant. This Plan of Action includes Everyone and every Organization. It will take a community working together to stop Morton’s asphalt plant.

The Foundation has hired John Runkle an environmental lawyer from Chapel Hill with over 20 years of experience in these types of cases. We encourage everyone to voice their opposition to Morton’s asphalt plant and to The Board of Adjustment’s decision by writing a letters to the editor of The Daily News.

Anyone wanting information can go to http://protectonslow.blogspot.com/ or e-mail The PON Foundation at ThePONFoundation@gmail.com

At the Board of Adjustment meeting it was clear that Mr. Morton had paid “experts“. The PON Foundation is raising funds for our legal counsel to fight the fight. If you would like to help, you can do so by making a donation of time and/or money.
Monetary donations can be sent to:

The PON Foundation will have a community meeting on Friday, May 14, 2010 @ White Oak High School starting at 6pm. Mr. Runkle and The Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL) will be present to provide important information and eye-opening maps.
.
More updates will be provided but for now know that we are moving full steam ahead to protect our neighborhoods.
